Returning the Autonomic Nervous System

Without conscious interference, the subconscious could locate the subconscious inbalances and correct or retune the messages sent. This would result in homeostasis, or retuning and rebalancing of the ANS and the hormones it releases.

However, where there is inbalance, there is conscious and/or unconscious over-stimulation of one branch. Yet, how can we expect to CONSCIOUSLY change through counselling, something with its origins in the prenatal, subconscious mind? This point of origin of the actual emotion can never be consciously remembered, and conscious dissection of the point of origin would be ineffective regardless.

People may turn to cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, sugar or coffee in an attempt to relax, or self-medicate the inbalance. Tension in the body can be released through various ways (i.e. yoga, dance, making or feeling love), yet tension is only a SYMPTOM of the problem. To effectively relieve the cause of disharmony within the body we need to remove the emotional perception of threat to self.

PST guides the subconscious, reminding the client of the ideal state; one of balance. Anger or fear may well have presented a genuine threat to you in the distant past, but your subconscious may be reacting in the present in an inappropriate way (outdated learnings).
THE GOAL IS TO RE-TUNE THE SUBCONSCIOUS WITHOUT REINFORCING THE PERCEPTION OF THREAT TO SELF.

Once rebalanced, the ANS will function properly – responding to authentic emergencies and relaxing once the urgency of the situation has passed. The organs of the body will function with balance. A feeling of deep calm will descend.
